WTF?
Art should be an eerie exploration of our uncertain reality, in order to reveal all that our era conceals and stifles within it, as well as all the harmony that might yet emerge from it. Through the eerie, through a work of the negative, art can fully become a metaphysical experience that overturns the conditions of our homogeneous, empty time.
I use the word “eerie,” not in the positive sense of a disturbing presence, but in the sense of an abstract and disquieting absence, as Mark Fisher used it. It means for me the desire to affirm a negativity in art, to seek out hauntings of impossible futures. Art must never become “fine art,” art must delve into ugliness, oblivion and insignificance, where could the beauty of an overthrow reside.
It is in this absence that a new, dialectical idea of negativity should emerge: today we are consumed by our consumption of art, without seeking metaphysical resonances in it, and we should resist by transforming the void itself into an artistic medium. And for this reason, we should search for the vibrancies and the fissures in our late modernity, and establish a space of collapse, mutation, and revolution within our very conception of existence.
